Melvin Alaeze (Randallstown, MD) is just one of the many top prospects being
recruited by Rutgers. He is one of the most highly sought after prospects
in the nation - TheInsiders.com lists him as a four star recruit and ranks him
as the sixth ranked DE prospect in the country. Listed at 6'2" and 276
pounds, he is an absolute monster when he steps on the football field.
Melvin has put up some very impressive numbers during his high school career. As
a Junior, he made fifty tackles, and recorded fifteen sacks on his way to being
named first team all-division, first team all-metro, first team all-county, and second team
all-state. Here are some of his thoughts on Rutgers and his college
recruitment in general.
The young prospect is a very good student as well as an outstanding football
player. He currently holds a 3.3 GPA and plans on re-taking the SAT to
improve his score.
Melvin has had an opportunity to meet Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano. He
stated, "Coach Schiano is a real good guy. I was really impressed that he
came to visit me at my school since not too many head coaches do that. I had a good time talking to him."
Alaeze is currently being recruited by Rutgers Recruiting Coordinator/Tight Ends
Coach Joe Susan. "Coach Susan is recruiting me," he said. "He is a nice guy and
made a good impression on me".
He has a list of very impressive offers. "I have been offered by USC,
Miami, Florida, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, and Boston College." He also
stated that he currently has no top five, nor a leader, at this point in his
recruitment.
Are there any overriding factors that are influencing Melvin during his
recruiting process? Sometimes location is a factor, as well as playing time and
the academic integrity of the school. Melvin stated, "I want to go to a
program that will boost me as a player and person. Location is not a
factor for me nor is playing time." He commented on the camps he has attended:
"I have attended the Nike Camp, Elite Combine, and the Maryland Camp. I don't plan on attending
anymore camps."
